Two providers can promise ‘practical AI training’ and deliver very different experiences. One may show a sequence of tools. Another may help participants complete a task, find mistakes and repeat the method independently. Compare the learning work and the evidence behind it before comparing logos, testimonials or the number of tools on a slide.

Send the same brief to every provider

We are a Singapore SME with [number] participants in [roles]. We want them to practise [specific task] using [approved tools and safe sample material]. Their current starting level is [description]. At the end, they should independently [observable action]. Please identify preparation, exercises, assessment, reusable materials, follow-up, exclusions and total fees.

Specify delivery language, accessibility needs, devices and account restrictions early. Do not send a live customer list to demonstrate that your business is serious. A fictional sample and a description of the workflow are enough for an initial comparison. If a provider wants actual records, ask why they are necessary and how they will be handled before sharing them.

Ask for these six pieces of evidence

  • A relevant exercise: request a sample input and the task participants will perform. ‘We cover twenty tools’ is not evidence of relevant practice.
  • An independent completion check: ask what participants will do without copying the trainer. A fresh example is more revealing than repeating the demonstration.
  • A review method: ask for an example with missing or wrong information and how learners should respond. A provider should be able to explain when an output is not usable.
  • The actual trainer: confirm who delivers, their relevant experience and how they support beginners. A founder’s biography does not establish who will be in your room.
  • A reusable handover: inspect the proposed template, checking guide and internal reuse permissions. Distinguish materials you retain from access that expires.
  • A bounded support offer: ask who answers follow-up questions, for how long and what is excluded. ‘Ongoing support’ needs a defined meaning.

The IES learning guide recommends worked examples followed by independent problems. That is a useful lens for inspecting an agenda, although it is education guidance rather than a certification scheme for corporate AI providers.

Use a scorecard, but keep non-negotiables separate

For each of the six areas, score 0 when absent, 1 for a claim without a sample, and 2 for a clear example or written commitment. Record a note beside every score. This is an EverX procurement aid, not a validated ranking system. A higher total must not override an unresolved data-handling issue, an unavailable trainer or an unsuitable course level.

Fictional comparison: Provider A scores highly for trainer experience and polished demonstrations but cannot show an independent exercise. Provider B has fewer tools in its syllabus but supplies a task, answer rubric and follow-up scope. If your objective is consistent workplace practice, B’s proposal is better aligned with that objective. This does not establish that B is universally the better provider or that a public introductory course has no value.

Verify funding claims at course level

MySkillsFuture provides course search. When funding is claimed, ask for the exact course title, course code, training provider and applicable intake, then check the official listing and funding conditions. A brand’s general reputation is not verification of a specific funded offer.

The official Enhanced Training Support for SMEs page describes support for eligible employer-sponsored employees attending SSG-supported courses. It is not a blanket discount on any workshop labelled AI training. Obtain written confirmation of eligibility, the payable fee and conditions before treating funding as secured.

Watch for promises the proposal cannot substantiate

Ask how any claimed productivity percentage was measured, for which task and with what checking effort included. Harvard’s research on consultants found that AI performance varies by task. That is a reason to be cautious about a provider promising the same uplift across every department, not a reason to reject training altogether.

Other warning signs are pressure to upload sensitive records before agreeing handling rules, no distinction between a certificate of attendance and an accredited qualification, and a scope that quietly shifts from training to a production automation. Ask for clarification rather than relying on assumptions.

Before signing, have the manager who will own follow-through review the sample exercise. If that manager cannot say what the team should be able to do afterwards, sharpen the brief. EverX should meet the same evidence standard: request the proposed exercise, deliverables and boundaries, rather than taking our positioning on trust.
